Radon Testing
 

We have been certified for Radon Testing since 1999 and performed over 25,000 radon tests in Southwest Florida. ​If you're not familiar with Radon, it is a naturally occurring radioactive gas produced by the breakdown of uranium in soil, rock and water. The air pressure inside your home is usually lower than pressure in soil around your home's foundation. Because of this difference in pressure, your home acts like a vacuum, drawing radon through foundation and cracks and other openings. 

While Radon is inherent to the everyday air we breath, it becomes more of an issue when exposed in elevated levels and is estimated to cause tens of thousands of lung cancer deaths each year, in fact the U.S. Surgeon General in 2005 has warned that Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. The U.S. Congress has set a long-term goal that indoor radon levels be no more than outdoor levels of 0.4 pCi/L of radon which is normally found in the outside air. EPA recommends fixing your home if the results of one long-term test or the average of two short-term tests show radon levels of 4 pCi/L or higher. With today’s technology, radon levels in most homes can be reduced to 2 pCi/L or below. You also may want to consider fixing if the level is between 2 and 4 pCi/L. In Florida, the most used method for reducing radon levels involve bringing fresh air into the home with typically an ERV (Energy Recovery Ventilator) or VAV (Variable Air Volume) system which also helps reduce other indoor air quality issues such as off gassing of VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) from glues, caulks, paint, furniture and/or building supplies used in construction.
